The rapid expansion of information technology (IT) has opened up many new possibilities in Nepal – and there have been some advances that only seemed attainable in the far distant future. The most recent census in Nepal has reported that mobile phones have become pervasive in the country. And, this changing communication landscape opens the doors to a range of new possibilities across multiple sectors.
IT is one of the cross-cutting core areas of StepupNepal’s support and assistance. The StepupNepal Information Technology Support Group (IT Group) has dual roles: supporting and leading. In the former, professionals representing the IT group will be engaged in adapting and applying exiting software to meet specific needs across the projects supported by StepupNepal. An example could be the development of a database for the project on Dust Exposure Hazard Reduction (DEHR) or the burn and rehabilitation project, described elsewhere in this website. Another function of this group will be to take the lead in developing and testing new applications. Some examples of this could be developing mobile-based applications for use in the healthcare sector, or similar other fields.
The StepupNepal Information Technology Support group consists of IT professionals representing the business, academic, public and private sectors. StepupNepal plans to initiate formal collaboration with organizations based in Nepal and the United States, as well as other countries. The group also plans to provide seed funds for innovative projects, identify internship/parent-ship opportunities, and offer mentoring support.
The group welcomes inquiries for potential collaboration. Please feel free to contact the group at <itgroup@stepupnepal.org> for further information or with your queries.
Thank you!
